Terms of Service
The ground rules for using GovLense. In plain terms: the app is free, there are no accounts, and the data is public-record information for your awareness — not legal advice — provided as is.
Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using the GovLense mobile app or this website (together, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
What GovLense Is
GovLense presents information about the United States Congress — bills, members, votes, committees, hearings, amendments, and live floor activity — drawn from official government and public-record sources. The Service is operated by GovLense LLC, a Virginia limited liability company. GovLense is an independent app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the U.S. government, the House, or the Senate.
No Account Required
GovLense has no user accounts. You do not create a login or provide personal details to use it. The bills, members, and preferences you choose are stored locally on your device, as explained in our Privacy Policy. Because there are no accounts, there is nothing for us to suspend and nothing for you to recover — deleting the app or clearing its storage removes your local data.
Acceptable Use
Please use the Service lawfully and reasonably. You agree not to:
- Use the Service in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems, data, or networks
- Interfere with, disrupt, or place an unreasonable load on the Service or its infrastructure
- Use automated tools to scrape or harvest the Service at scale
- Misrepresent your identity or affiliation, or imply that GovLense is an official government service
Intellectual Property
The underlying Congressional data is public-domain U.S. government information. The GovLense name, the app, its design, and our compilation, presentation, and analysis of that data are owned by GovLense and protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You are welcome to use the app for personal, civic, and informational purposes.
Accuracy & No Professional Advice
We work to keep information accurate and current, but we cannot guarantee that it is complete, error-free, or up to the minute. The Service is provided for general information only and is not legal, political, financial, or other professional advice. For anything that matters, verify it against the official source — for example, Congress.gov, House.gov, or Senate.gov.
Third-Party Services & Links
The Service relies on, and may link to, third-party services and websites we do not control — for example, government data sources and the mapping providers used to find your representatives. We are not responsible for their content, availability, or practices, and their own terms and privacy policies apply to your use of them.
Availability & Changes to the Service
GovLense is provided free of charge. We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time, and we may limit access to protect or maintain the Service. We do not guarantee that the Service will always be available, uninterrupted, or error-free.
Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted or secure, or that any information is accurate, reliable, or complete.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, GovLense and its operators will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, use, or goodwill, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service. Because the Service is free, our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to USD $100.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless GovLense and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses arising out of your misuse of the Service or your violation of these Terms.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any disputes arising under these Terms will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the state and federal courts located in Virginia.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change is material, we will update the effective date above and post the revised Terms here and in the app. Your continued use of the Service after the changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
